Twenty days into the new year, and Morrissey has already canceled more shows than he’s played on his 2026 tour. The former Smiths frontman has now axed five performances while only managing to grace the stage twice—proving once again that buying a Morrissey ticket is always a gamble.
The latest casualty is a show scheduled for Monday night at the Duke Energy Center For The Arts’ Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, FL. The venue cited “artist illness” as the reason for the cancellation, though longtime Moz fans know this phrase could mean anything from a genuine health concern to a strong dislike for the venue’s lighting setup.
Adding insult to injury, the St. Petersburg show was already a make-up date. Morrissey had previously canceled at the same venue last May, meaning some fans have been waiting nearly a year for a performance that will now never happen. It’s a pattern familiar to anyone who’s ever tried to see the notoriously temperamental singer live.
The timing is particularly unfortunate given that Morrissey is supposedly promoting his first album in six years, fittingly titled Make-Up Is A Lie, which is slated for release on March 6th.
Morrissey is scheduled to perform on Thursday at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL [get tickets]. Will he make it? The smart money says… who knows?
For those willing to risk it, he’s also set tour the U.K. and Europe in February and March. Tickets are available here, but given his track record, fans might want to book refundable hotels.
In all seriousness, we wish Morrissey a speedy recovery from whatever “artist illness” is currently plaguing him. But for those holding tickets to Thursday’s show, well—may the odds be ever in your favor.
