Mikaela Davis has announced her forthcoming album Graceland Way, due out April 24th via Kill Rock Stars, alongside the release of a new single and music video for “(Looking Through) Rose Colored Glasses”, which features vocals from Madison Cunningham and Tim Heidecker.
Recorded at UHF Studio in Glendale, CA, the album was produced by Davis alongside collaborators Dan Horne and John Lee Shannon of Circle Around The Sun. Davis said the record took shape while she and Shannon spent an extended period writing together in the hills above Chevy Chase Canyon, where they spent time drawing on personal stories and searching, as she put it, for “the thread that ties us all together.” Horne served as engineer and mixer on the project, with mastering handled by Ian Sefchick.
The accompanying music video for “(Looking Through) Rose Colored Glasses” was directed by the creative duo Mama Hot Dog and Sean McGuirk. In addition to Cunningham and Heidecker, the track features pedal steel from Kurt G. Johnson and contributions from Clay Finch on vocals, Austin Beede on drums, Andres Renteria on percussion, and Shannon on guitar. Davis handles vocals, harp, and keyboards throughout. The song is credited as a co-write between Davis and Shannon.
Cunningham, a Los Angeles-based guitarist and songwriter who has earned widespread critical acclaim in recent years, and Heidecker, the comedian and musician best known for his work with Tim & Eric, make for an unlikely but intriguing pairing on the track.
