The Funk Sessions will return to New Orleans as part of Live For Live Music‘s Fest by Nite series during Jazz Fest 2026, bringing another late-night blowout to the Toulouse Theatre on Saturday, April 25th (technically early a.m. 4/26) [get tickets].
This year’s edition of the long-running, ever-evolving concert series will bring together The Funk Sessions alumni Adam Deitch and Erick “Maverick” Coomes of Lettuce, saxophone madman and Jazz Fest late-night warrior Skerik (Les Claypool), Dumpstaphunk leader and New Orleans legend Ivan Neville, and Dumpstaphunk trumpeter Ashlin Parker. The Funk Sessions launched in Denver in 2019 as a monthly residency built around rotating lineups of well-known players and has since become a cornerstone of Live For Live Music’s Fest by Nite series during Jazz Fest. Over the years, the series has evolved from a straightforward showcase into something more adventurous. That boundary-pushing spirit was on full display at the 2025 edition, a widely noted highlight of last year’s Fest by Nite series. At that late-night summit, Skerik led Deitch, Coomes, Lettuce guitarist Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff, and Parker—who joined as a surprise guest—into the shadows for two-plus hours of jazz, funk, and electronica, as kaleidoscopic projections draped the walls and crowd in the venue. Now, after making a splash as a special guest in 2025, Parker will step into the billed lineup alongside Deitch, Coomes, Skerik, and Neville for what promises to be another can’t-miss late-night deep-dive during Fest by Nite 2026.
