Greensky Bluegrass visited the home of the then-future Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, where the band called local player Tom Hamilton off the bench. TheĀ Joe Russo’s Almost Dead guitarist joined Greensky Bluegrass for aĀ Jerry Garcia Band-favoredĀ Motown classic and one of Greensky’s songs at The Fillmore.
Though it’s not like Greensky needed any more strings onstage, Hamilton put his electric guitar to good use on “Lose My Way”. Some impressive rock soloing gave an update to the throwback from Greensky’s 2011 album Handguns, before Hamilton and dobroistĀ Anders Beck locked eye-to-eye and face-to-face to feed each other’s firesāand vocalist/mandolinist Paul Hoffman broke in with the ending verse toĀ Led Zeppelin‘s “Stairway to Heaven”. Switching over to Hamilton’s typical modus operandi, the symphony of strings kicked intoĀ Smokey Robinson & The Miracles‘ “Second That Emotion”. Accordingly, after Hoffman finished the verses (with only a minor flub), Hamilton was given the floor for a short and sweet jam that put a sentimental cap on the first set.
