After a successful Valentine’s Day audition party in Denver, Wooking For Love has chosen its contestants and is moving forward. The independent team behind the dating show set in the music festival subculture shared a teaser and provided additional details on the series, set to begin filming next month.
As previously reported, Wooking For Love will feature 16 contestants, “diverse wooks seeking love, connection, and their forever festival partner.” The show will air for 12 episodes, with a finale at Hydrophonic Festival in Aztec, NM, May 7th–10th. Organizers have not yet revealed where the show will air, but LaRue Allegretto—the Denver tattoo artist who created the program—previously said he was in talks with AEG and Peacock about a potential partnership, and is hoping to premiere the show by fall.
A heady twist on the reality dating show concept, Wooking For Love will feature couples challenges catered to survival in the music festival landscape. “We’re gonna be cutting off wristbands instead of giving out roses,” Allegretto explained. “You’re gonna be a ground score if you get dropped by your partner.”
According to the website, contestants will enter the competition solo, with no pre-existing couples, and choose their partners based on chemistry, skills, and “survival instincts.” Together, they will compete in the trials of festival life, including flow art choreography, stage-hand production, running a vendor booth, railriding until sunrise, and more.
“I’ve seen couples break up because their workload is too much,” Allegretto told EDM Identity. “I’ve seen people who can’t handle their partner getting too much attention as a performer. I’ve seen partners not have good luck vending at a festival, and that puts a strain on relationships. I want to show that, but also say, ‘Hey, this is how the magic works.’ People don’t just show up and fuck off. There are people putting their heart and soul into making this show happen.”
Contestants will stay at a villa purchased by NOVA Studios, a Denver creative space that serves as the show’s headquarters and hosted the Valentine’s Day audition party/bass show. The wooks will pair up and compete in challenges, with a “vibe check” occurring every few episodes where they have the choice to stick with their partners or find a new one.
“The host will ask, ‘Do you want to give them backstage access [winks] or cut their wristband?’” Algretto explained. Those who cut their wristbands will be known as a “groundscore,” and can be picked up by new partners. But if they’re still single by the next vibe check, they’re off the show. Allegretto has said the show will “lean a little bit” into non-monogamous configurations, so it’s not a foregone conclusion that Wooking For Love will end with just two contestants. We’ll just have to tune in to find out.
