J & The Causeways, the NOLA-native soul and R&B ensemble, will argue that Saturday night’s alright for more than just fighting with Alligator Rock: A New Orleans Tribute to Elton John at Toulouse Theatre in the French Quarter on Saturday, May 2nd. The after-dark tribute show, part of Fest by Nite 2026, will follow the band’s performance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival fairgrounds earlier that day [get tickets].
J & The Causeways formed at New Orleans’ famed Maple Leaf Bar, a site steeped in local music tradition that’s frequented by legends to this day. From that birthplace, the six-piece juggernaut led by vocalist Jordan Anderson has developed a keen sense for the songs and soul of the Big Easy.
“New Orleans is home to some of the finest singers and musicians on the planet,” Anderson remarked, “which also means you have to bring your A-game to every single show—you’re representing this city and the long history of beautiful music that’s been created here.”
When most people think of those fine New Orleans musicians, Elton John probably isn’t the first name that comes to mind. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer has sold out stadiums worldwide with anthemic pop-rock songs, piano ballads, and even a pretty underrated Americana album (1970’s Tumbleweed Connection—a tour that brought the musician to New Orleans for his first time in 1971). But the music of New Orleans and the work of Allen Toussaint, in particular, have left an indelible mark on the English music legend: During one of Sir Elton’s last visits to New Orleans in 2014, he dedicated “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues” to Toussaint, for the “countless hours, days, months of pleasure he’s given me.”
“I fell in love with the music of this city in 1957 when I first heard Fats Domino,” John said at his last New Orleans show in 2022, adding that the city possesses a “funk that no other city has.”
