Goose played its first show of 2026 on Saturday, shaking off the cobwebs with a headlining set at Athens, GA melanoma awareness festival Jam in the Streets. The outdoor event, presented by 501(c)(3) non-profit Jam For Cam, also featured performances by Moon TaxiClay Street UnitSlater NalleyJacoozyEasy HoneyWax MonkeyTomorrow’s Problem, and more, and reportedly welcomed more than 25,000 attendees. Among the indie-jam band’s first orders of business for the new year was paying tribute to Grateful Dead co-founder Bob Weir, who collaborated with Goose several times over the years.

Despite the single-set format, a two-and-a-half-hour slot on the main stage in the streets of Athens afforded Goose plenty of time to stretch out and jam. Keyboardist Peter Anspach came charging out on funky clavinet for the opening 14-minute “Hot Tea”, paired with “Arcadia” to set an upbeat tone for the show ahead.

Elsewhere, Goose allowed a patient “Arcadia” to rise and fall through several jam peaks. “Hot Love & The Lazy Poet” and a fast “Echo of a Rose” kept up the pace, bassist Trevor Weekz providing a bedrock throughout as the band’s four-man format allows greater emphasis on each person’s role. Of note, the band introduced new arrangements for originals “Madalena” and “Your Direction”, giving the former a melodic intro and slowing down the latter.

After “Give It Time” closed the main set, Goose returned to the stage with a good bit of time still on the board. As the crowd kept chanting and showed no signs of stopping, Goose dropped into the wobbly opening of Grateful Dead staple, “One More Saturday Night”. For the past few decades, there was a decent probability that, if you picked one of the year’s 52 Saturdays at random, Bob Weir may have been playing “One More Saturday Night” that evening. Just as Goose has done with the jam band tradition Bob Weir and the Grateful Dead started, so too has Goose taken up the tradition of playin’ “One More Saturday” on a Saturday.
